During this program, your guide will instruct the children on how to make a birdhouse using one of the birdhouse gourds that was grown and dried on the farm. All supplies are included and all participants will take their new birdhouse home with them to hang in their yard! Feeding the farm animals and a hayride is also included! Register on or before June 1st. $8.50/anyone making a birdhouse.

Come join the fun as we take the hayride to the Cattail Creek. Wear old tennis shoes or water shoes, as we go into the creek to catch a variety of critters by using nets. After taking time to catch them, we gather together to discuss what we have found, where they live in the creek, who they might eat, and their various life cycles! After releasing the critters, we take the hayride back to the barnyard where we feed the farm animals! Register on or before June 2nd. $7.00/child (Adults are free)

We cordially invite you to join us for our "Spring Is Growing" program. Learn about the parts of a seed and how plants grow. Take a tour of our working greenhouse and observe plants at various stages of growth. We also will feed the farm animals and take a hayride! Bring mom and grandmoms on Saturday or Sunday, to celebrate Mother's Day on our 530 acre working farm! Bring a container, or purchase on of ours, and choose from our wide selection of beautiful flowers or herbs and make your mom a special Mother's Day container! We supply the soil, the fertilizer, and the mulch for your planter for free. (You just pay for whatever plants you choose.) Bring a picnic lunch and enjoy being with the family by one of our scenic ponds. Feed the farm animals or walk along our nature trail.

With free admission from 10:00-1:00, you can explore the museum on your own using our History Detectives Scavenger Hunt. From 1:00 until 4:00, we’ll also offer educator-led activities.

Enjoy free admission, refreshments, and children’s activities for our Martin Luther King Day Celebration. Homeschoolers can become History Detectives, looking for clues as they trace Iowa's African American history from Africa to the present day in the exhibit "Endless Possibilities" or see Iowa's impact on the integration of the military in "Unconditional Loyalty". A special “Martin’s Big Words” Learning Safari will be presented at 10:30am for learners age 3-6.

Join us in celebrating a holiday that focuses on unity, community, creativity, and faith—Kwanzaa!  This fun family event will have food, music, hands-on activities for all-ages. Not sure what Kwanzaa is really about? This is the place for you! Make gifts, decorations, AND see the museum's newest exhibit, Unconditional Loyalty, on its opening day. This event is free and open to the public.

Remarkable Kansas Women is a series of biographical paintings. Artist Jennifer Randall captures the lives of several Kansas women on canvas. From famous to infamous, the paintings visually explore the public and private pasts of strong, courageous, unique women.

A 19th century Christmas celebration set aside for homeschool and other families. Visitors can tour the plantation house to learn about 1800s Christmas customs, see cooking in the kitchen, a slave Christmas in the cabin, make applesauce and paper dove ornaments, and meet St. Nick! Admission is $5 per person, ages 4 and under free. Wednesday, December 8th, 2010 from 12-4pm.
