EVENT: May 11, 2011 - 10th Annual Pioneer Day 9:30 am-2:30 pm. CALLING ALL TEACHERS, have we got a great Field Trip for your class! Spend your day at the Historic Museum in Hays, Kansas at Pioneer Day, Wednesday, May 11, 2011. The Ellis County Historical Society Museum, 100 West 7th Street, Hays, Kansas is sponsoring for the 10th year, Pioneer Day. This is a one-day event from 9:30 am to 2:30 pm for elementary age students K-5th grades. This is a FREE educational, outdoor FUN event for your students! We will have hands-on booths and demonstrations.

Blood Drive – Sponsored by Covenant Kids Fund

On Saturday, March 12, 2011, Covenant Kids and Michigan Blood will host a blood drive at the Mid-Michigan Children’s Museum. Blood donors will receive free admission to the Children’s Museum. While you explore the museum, kids can watch a special presentation from dinosaur expert Paleo Joe at 1:30 pm and enter into the Covenant Kids coloring contest for a chance to win a family membership for four to the museum and be featured on the April 16, 2011, Covenant Kids Telethon on WNEM TV5!

Saginaw Bay Symphony Orchestra Musician – Flutist

The MMCM and the Saginaw Bay Symphony have received a grant from the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs to bring professionally trained musicians to the museum for the enjoyment and education of elementary students and families. The musicians will demonstrate their instruments, discuss their career preparation, and may bring instruments for the children to play. Check our website frequently for the complete schedule. All presentations are open to the public with regular paid museum admission.

Saginaw Bay Symphony Orchestra Musician – Harpist

Wear your party dress, bring your American Girl Doll and plan on enjoying the festivities.

ThinkFirst - Buckle Your Brain

Two Separate Sessions: 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. Plan a visit to the MMCM on March 26 to find out the importance of wearing a bicycle helmet. You’ll see a “rules of the road” bike safety video, be able to touch models of the brain, discuss why it’s important to protect the brain and what the brain does, get instruction on how to wear a helmet properly, and see the famous “watermelon drop demo.” Parents can bring their child’s helmet in and we will check it for proper fit.
