The MMCM and the Saginaw Bay Symphony have received a grant from the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs to bring professionally trained musicians to the museum for the enjoyment and education of elementary students and families. The musicians will demonstrate their instruments, discuss their career preparation, and may bring instruments for the children to play. Check the website frequently for the complete schedule.

ThinkFirst - Buckle Your Brain

Two Separate Sessions: 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. Plan a visit to the MMCM on March 26 to find out the importance of wearing a bicycle helmet. You’ll see a “rules of the road” bike safety video, be able to touch models of the brain, discuss why it’s important to protect the brain and what the brain does, get instruction on how to wear a helmet properly, and see the famous “watermelon drop demo.” Parents can bring their child’s helmet in and we will check it for proper fit.

Lanier Mansion’s Right Angle: Everyday Math and Greek Revival Architecture

An interdisciplinary math and historic preservation experience allows students to explore Greek Revival architecture and historic preservation. Additional hands-on activities include an outside treasure hunt, and an additional activity of your choice. This 2½ hour program was made possible by a Historic Preservation Education Grant from Historic Landmarks Foundation of Indiana, the Indiana Humanities Council, and the National Endowment for the Humanities. $3 per person ($48 minimum plus mileage after 50 miles from Madison, Ind.)

TITANIC Day at The Mariners' Museum!

Transport your students to the early 20th Century as The Mariners’ Museum brings history to life with activities focusing on the tragic 1912 sinking of TITANIC! For only $5 per person, students will interact with costumed interpreters, play period games, and make crafts to take home. Each student will also participate in an interactive program that will introduce them to the history, technology, and mystery surrounding the R.M.S. TITANIC.

Summer Institute for the Gifted Saturday Program at Storm King School

During the four-week session, meeting each Saturday, students in grades 1-8 will dive into exciting and challenging courses designed to develop and enhance such skills as communication, leadership, problem solving, and inventive thinking. Working both independently and in groups, students will improve social skills while enhancing their academic abilities through the course curriculum. Students are encouraged to work within their own specialty areas, resulting in a learning experience that is personalized and truly unique for each student.
