The Midwest Museum of Natural History, in partnership with the Egyptian Theatre, presents Jack Hanna’s Into the Wild Live, featuring many of his favorite animal friends, as well as fascinating and humorous stories and footage from his adventures around the world. Everyone from the youngest child to the oldest adult will be entertained and inspired.

For rising 3rd and 4th graders (8–10 years) August 6–10 This summer come explore Jefferson Patterson Park & Museum like you never have before! Each day will be a different adventure. We’ll discover what life was like for a Native American in the Indian Village, investigate the archaeology of Southern Maryland, see if you could survive life as a European Colonist and learn how science and history help us interpret the past!

For rising 5th–8th graders (10–13 years) Session 1—July 23–27 Session 2—July 30–August 3 Come build shelters, make fire with bow and drill, and find out about the tools native people made and used. We will explore the forest and marsh, play games about stalking and tracking, and challenge ourselves to learn how American Indians lived with the land. Campers can attend one session or both. In the second session we will expand upon the skills and experiences we had in the first session, but all campers will be able to enjoy both sessions equally.

For rising 7th–10th graders (12–15 years) July 16–20 Join us to learn more than just the basics of archaeology as we take our explorations to the next level. Discover how archaeologists identify and excavate sites. Follow the artifacts into the MAC Lab to clean, identify them and uncover the stories they have to tell. Work with JPPM’s professional staff in the field and in the lab to study how people lived in the past. Previous camp attendance a plus but is not a requirement.

For rising 5th–8th graders (10–13 years) July 9–13 Have you ever wanted to be an archaeologist? Here's your chance to spend a week working with archaeologists excavating an 18th century plantation site and to learn how to identify the artifacts that you find. Discover what goes on in the Maryland Archaeological Conservation Laboratory (MAC Lab) as you help the curators and conservators clean, study, and preserve archaeological artifacts.

For rising 5th–8th graders (10–13 years) June 25–29 Experience how the early colonists in Maryland survived along the Patuxent River! Campers will leave the 21st century behind as they participate in activities that represent early colonial life, including architecture, daily chores, economy, and play! Campers will learn how to use flint and steel to make fire, use natural materials to make clothing and basketry, and spend time with local artisans in the art of soap making and carpentry.

For rising 2nd and 3rd Graders (7–9 years old) June 25–29* Can you imagine the feeling of sand between your toes on a warm and sunny beach? How about the feeling of ooey gooey mud between your fingers? Or can you close your eyes and hear the patter of marching feet on dry soil? Come experience these sensations and more as we explore Jefferson Patterson Park from the ground up! Test your green thumb in the native garden, survey an archaeological site, and even try on some natural camouflage. Be prepared to get messy and try something new all in the name of science!

All Ages, No Fee. A day to celebrate and learn! Join us as we experience and discover the knowledge and traditions of America’s first culture. There will be people teaching and demonstrating crafts and skills, with fun things to watch and do and learn!

Fee: $3/person or $10/car In 1814, war reached the shores of Southern Maryland. At the mouth of St. Leonard Creek, on property that is now part of JPPM, Maryland’s largest naval engagement occurred. This living history event puts you in the middle of life in Southern Maryland during the early 1800s. Event features tactical demonstrations and reenactments, camp life, live entertainment, crafts, music and hands-on activities.
