Join other homeschooling families for tours at MIM. Tours are offered at 9:30 and 11:00 a.m. Admission is $8 per student and $8 per chaperone above the 1:5 ratio. With the help of MIM's curriculum and supporting materials, teachers and chaperones lead their students through MIM's five major Geographical Galleries. Register by contacting MIM’s School and Group Tour Coordinator at 480.245.6919 or grouptours@MIM.org at least two weeks in advance of the tour. The Feel-the-Music Cart Tour (best for grades 3-12) offers the freedom of self-directed learning along with six special hands-on opportunities within the structure of a semi-guided tour experience. Each gallery will include a "cart stop" focusing on an instrument, an outfit, and/or other materials that help to bring the MIM world to life.

The Discovery Semi-Guided Tour (best for grades 3-12) is the perfect combination of free-choice learning and tours led by museum guides. Students select exhibits they want to explore in all five of MIM's major Geographical Galleries, participate in group discussion initiated by a museum guide, and work in small teams using a scavenger hunt worksheet.

Christmas Candlelight Tours

Step back in time to the year 1819. Christmas is nearly here. The people in town are preparing for Christmas as their family traditions have taught them. View the Boone Home and the village decorated and lit with thousands of candles to create a one of a kind atmosphere full of holiday cheer and good tide. As visitors make their way through the candlelit village, they will see the traditions of different cultures and see how the special holiday was celebrated on the frontier. Artisans, musicians, and town folk populate the village singing carols and playing favorite Christmas tunes.

Walk the lantern-lit paths and explore a pioneer village filled with superstition and doubt. Watch as tales and stories from the 1800s are brought to life, and learn why townspeople were always cautious, especially at night. The first tour will begin at 6:00 p.m. at the Historic Daniel Boone Home & Heritage Center in Defiance, Missouri. This Halloween event is great for families and is a good alternative to the traditional celebrations.

Pioneer Days

Defiance, Missouri – The Historic Daniel Boone Home & Heritage Center will be hosting an event called Pioneer Days on September 19-20, 2015. The event begins both days at 9 a.m. and ends at 5 p.m. Admission is $12 for adults, $10 for seniors (55 and older), and $6 for children (age 4-11). Step back into the early 1800s and witness what life was like on the Missouri Frontier. The site’s historic village will be transformed into a living history town filled with pioneer men and women carrying out their daily tasks.

Tuesday, Nov.11th – Open House -Pilgrim History & Hayride 12 – 2PM We cordially invite all families, and homeschoolers, to join us for “Pilgrim History”. This is one of our most popular November educational programs that we offer. History comes to life as all of our tour guides for this program are in costume. Children will learn about the Pilgrims home life, the chores Pilgrim children were responsible for, the games Pilgrim children played, and also about the Pilgrim’s relationship to Native Americans. The program concludes with a hayride that goes through the Cattail Creek.
