Please call first for reservations to this engaging, interactive holiday musical for pre-school and elementary-age children and their families. The 20-minute musical follows the action in the mythical village of Celebration Crossing as Trumble the Train enlists the help of his forest friends in foiling the plot of hte villainour Dickens Bildungsroman to take over the village and ruin the holiday season for everyone. Original songs, lively dialogue and audience participation are part of the fun.

At the Indiana State Museum, the holiday season begins the day after Thanksgiving with the arrival of Santa by helicopter and the opening of the Celebration Crossing exhibition. Besides the excitement of Santa, you can feel the nostalgia of the L.S.Ayres Christmas window display as well as more contemporary holiday fun, choirs and bands from schools around Indiana, the Santa Claus Express train, and other activities.

Eternal James Dean will take a look at his Indiana roots, his brief time as an actor in California and New York, his films and his passion for motorcycles and racing.

Day of the Dead Altar Exhibition

The museum will host a month-long celebration of los Dia de los Muertos, or Day ofht eDea. See aspects of this traditional Mexican holiday which honors the lives of the deceased and celebrates the continuiation of life with a belief that death is not the end, but rather the beginning of a new stage of existence. The museum will exhibit ofrendas, or altars, created by community members, artists, schools and families in Indiana.

Free with Peabody Museum admission. Recommended for ages 5 and up accompanied by an adult. Join us as we continue to enjoy the Day of the Dead celebration at the Peabody Museum. View the special altars and decorations, leave messages for your departed loved ones, explore the ancient Aztec origins of the festival and its food, enjoy music, and make your own paper marigolds, papel picado banners, and calaca (skull) masks to take home.

Katie Serewicz Retrospective Exhibit: An Artist's Journey

Join us to celebrate Katie! Katie Serewicz (1950–2011) was a creative powerhouse. She worked as a professional artist in her early life, designing sport clothing and stationary. She later found her true niche and passion in art therapy. Katie was one of the founders of The Art Experience, a community art studio in Pontiac serving people with and without disabilities. Trained in art therapy, the founders stressed the value of the experience of doing art—for everyone.

Monthly Art Journaling Workshops

Learn techniques for preparing pages from others or share some of your own. Some materials provided. Facilitated by Sue Nimlin, retired occupational therapist and lifelong artist. Begindergarten's Art Story

Children will have fun learning about different artists through imitating their artwork of various medium and styles. Featured artists are Picasso, O’Keefe, Hokusai, and Kahlo. Youth will create soft sculpture, floral, landscape and portraits using the technique of collage, pastel and prints. Supplies included. Taught by Ester Mauricio. Ages 4-6. Must register 1 week in advance.
