Learn about the artists and inspiration behind the murals, mosaics, reliefs, mobiles and sculptures located within a half-mile walk of the museum. Discover Naperville in a whole new way as a knowledgeable museum guide leads you on an engaging walk through some of the community’s most historic and picturesque neighborhoods.

Under the Stars & Stripes Camp Out

Bring the entire family for a unique overnight camping experience at Naper Settlement. Enjoy a catered dinner, two camping-related demonstrations by Recreational Equipment Inc. (REI) staff, geocaching, roasted marshmallows, storytelling, family time and more activities. On Saturday morning, enjoy a continental breakfast and special tours of historic buildings before the museum opens to the public. Community partner REI staff will be on hand to help families set up tents on Friday night. There are currently no tents available for loan.

Building a Town

During the month of June, visit the museum to discover how Naperville developed from Joseph Naper’s original homestead site. From building shelter to planting crops, it takes a great deal of hard work, followed by celebrations, to establish a settlement. A variety of activities will be offered throughout the month based on the theme, “Building A Town,” including activity stations that feature pelts and trading items. Try pioneer chores like planting corn, food processing and building with Lincoln Logs®. View maps depicting the growth of the town, participate in a scavenger hunt and more.

This summer there will be one session of Teen Camp for kids age 10-15 years of age on July 9-13, 1-4:30 pm. With the fundamentals each young artist will learn throughout the week, they will have the opportunity to produce numerous works of art which they will be able to present in an Art Show at the end of their final day of camp.

Camp Common Ground is an inter-generational family camp going into its 19th year. We welcome people of all ages, ethnicities, lifestyles, abilities and economic backgrounds. This week long family program focuses on creative expression, fun, great food and community. Campers have the opportunity to explore the many options available in one week or to immerse themselves more deeply in one particular activity. New and old friendships are cemented at Camp Common Ground.
