Bring the entire family for a unique overnight camping experience at Naper Settlement. Enjoy a catered dinner, two camping-related demonstrations by Recreational Equipment Inc. (REI) staff, geocaching, roasted marshmallows, storytelling, family time and more activities. On Saturday morning, enjoy a continental breakfast and special tours of historic buildings before the museum opens to the public. Community partner REI staff will be on hand to help families set up tents on Friday night. There are currently no tents available for loan. Please plan on bringing your own tent and camping equipment. Please continue to check our Website for updated REI tent rental options. Please note that individual campsite fires or cooking are not permitted. Agenda: Friday Evening: 5:00 pm Check in opens 5:00-6:00 pm Set up camp, REI will be available to help with tent set up 5:30-7:00 pm Dinner will be served in the Tavern. Dinner menu includes: hamburgers, hot dogs, mac and cheese, pasta salad, and watermelon 6:00 pm Check in closes 6:00-8:00 pm REI will be leading ongoing demonstrations in Leave No Trace and Map and Compass Skills 7:00-8:00 pm Geocaching and other activities will be available for campers 8:00-9:00 pm Marshmallow roast in Fort Payne 8:30-9:00 pm Storytelling around Campfire* 9:00 pm Family time at campsites Saturday Morning: 7:30-9:00 am Continental Breakfast will be served in the Tavern. Breakfast will feature fruit, muffins, coffee, milk and juice. 8:00-9:30 am Prior to the museum opening to the public, select historic buildings will be open for tours 9:30-10:00 am Finish packing up campsite A Naper Settlement staff member will be on grounds all night. No private campfires or cooking are permitted on grounds. If you bring your own snacks, please store them in covered containers. *Our storyteller will be Mary Kroening. Mary Kroening combines her loves of storytelling and music to bring stories to life for audiences of all ages. She believes that stories can touch the heart, stir the soul, engaged the mind, pique curiosity, and tickle the funny bone. When she plays her ukulele, audiences join in and sing along. Her enthusiastic, participatory style engages her listeners; they catch her dreams and stories and want to pass them on.
