Shel Silverstein and Jack Prelutsky are the authors of much well-loved and familiar children’s poetry. Favorites like The New Kid on the Block, Be Glad Your Nose is on Your Face, The Boa Constrictor and Hug of War, will be read, memorized and staged. This camp is a fun exploration of books and stories that center around animals, specifically rodents and amphibians. Campers will read popular tales such as If You Give a Mouse a Cookie, Frog and Toad, Mouse Tales, and other student choice selections. Once the story has been read the students are guided in bringing the characters, locations, and environments to life. Broadway Here and Now is a revue for 8 to 12 year olds featuring scenes and songs from popular Broadway shows such as Peter Pan, Annie, Mary Poppins, and Shrek. Campers will spend the week learning choreography, memorizing lines, and preparing songs. At the end of the camp, friends and family will be invited to attend the show! Calling All Science Buffs! Families can register to attend the CMU-GEM Family Science Workshop at the MMCM. Families with children pre-K to grade 5 will practice hands-on, easy-does-it science. Cooperative learning activities develop problem solving, questions and communication skills for learning science.
