Bring mom and grandmoms on Saturday or Sunday, to celebrate Mother's Day on our 530 acre working farm! Bring a container, or purchase on of ours, and choose from our wide selection of beautiful flowers or herbs and make your mom a special Mother's Day container! We supply the soil, the fertilizer, and the mulch for your planter for free. (You just pay for whatever plants you choose.) Bring a picnic lunch and enjoy being with the family by one of our scenic ponds. Feed the farm animals or walk along our nature trail.

Featuring live music by The Robert Lee Review, a silent auction, delicious food, specialty beverages, design-your-own cupcake bar, interactive gallery games designed to challenge and entertain adults (i.e. minute-to-win-it, minnow races, ball drop), and more!

Martin Luther King Day

Enjoy free admission, refreshments, and children’s activities for our Martin Luther King Day Celebration. Homeschoolers can become History Detectives, looking for clues as they trace Iowa's African American history from Africa to the present day in the exhibit "Endless Possibilities" or see Iowa's impact on the integration of the military in "Unconditional Loyalty". A special “Martin’s Big Words” Learning Safari will be presented at 10:30am for learners age 3-6.

Kwanzaa Festival

Join us in celebrating a holiday that focuses on unity, community, creativity, and faith—Kwanzaa!  This fun family event will have food, music, hands-on activities for all-ages. Not sure what Kwanzaa is really about? This is the place for you! Make gifts, decorations, AND see the museum's newest exhibit, Unconditional Loyalty, on its opening day. This event is free and open to the public.

A Homeschool Christmas

A 19th century Christmas celebration set aside for homeschool and other families. Visitors can tour the plantation house to learn about 1800s Christmas customs, see cooking in the kitchen, a slave Christmas in the cabin, make applesauce and paper dove ornaments, and meet St. Nick! Admission is $5 per person, ages 4 and under free. Wednesday, December 8th, 2010 from 12-4pm.

Secession or Surrender: Georgia’s Secession Convention of 1861, A Reenactment

A plaque outside the Legislative Chamber in the Old Capitol Building in Milledgeville reads, “These grounds witnessed the greatest and most brilliant convocation ever held in the Commonwealth of Georgia. The Secession Convention January 16-19, 1861.” On January 18 & 21, 2011, one hundred fifty years after this historic event, the Legislative Chamber will again ring with the words of the irascible Herschel Johnson, the ardent secessionists Thomas Cobb and Senator Robert Toombs, and the ambitious unionist Alexander Stephens, in a reenactment of that historic and fateful 1861 convention.
