Discover the magic of trains at the Gaithersburg Community Museum’s Train Day. Visitors are invited to celebrate Gaithersburg’s long and storied history with the railroad. Enjoy an N-Gauge model train display presented by BANTRAK members, explore vintage rail cars, and participate in train-related activities. With any luck visitors can also enjoy the sights and sounds of the actual CSX and AMTRAK trains that frequently rumble past the Museum. Special programs scheduled for the weekend are:
• Saturday at 11:30 and 1:30 - Special presentation for children with Jim Porterfield
• Saturday at 3:00 - “From Soot to Soufflé: Dining on the Rails” with historian Jim Porterfield. There is a $3 fee for the talk, recommended for ages 12 and older. (This presentation requires pre-registration. Call 30-258-6160 to register.)
• Sunday at 11:30 -12:00, 12:30-1, and 1:30-2 – “Songs of the Railroad” with Ray Owens
This is a drop-in program for audiences of all ages. Admission is free, but a donation to help cover the cost of materials is appreciated.
