Class Description 9am to 12:30pm daily from July 6th to July 10th You will explore balance, form, stability, gravity and motion using additive and subtractive sculptural techniques with a variety of materials; toothpicks, cardboard, wood, and wire in this fun intensive. Projects are designed for students to explore their own potential and creativity. This class will meet for 1.5 - 2 hours with one break. The instructor will be available for additional feedback during the day over email. Special Notes Please have a pair of sturdy scissors, needle nose pliers, cardboard and an old towel available for your participant. All other supplies will be provided in a supply kit available for curbside pick up from the Durham Arts Council the week before the class. If you don't have any of the above supplies please let us know and we will include it in your kit. Please note you must register by the Thursday before camp in order to receive your supply kit prior to the first day of camp. Kits are yours to keep to continue working once the class completes. This class will be taught on Zoom. A link will be sent a few days before the class start date. Instructor(s) LARRY DOWNING received his BFA in sculpture from UNC Chapel Hill. He has taught at DAC and Durham School of the Arts for many years. Larry has enjoyed classes at Penland School of Craft, School of the Art Institute of Chicago and Rhode Island School of Design. His work can be seen at the Mahler Gallery in Raleigh and Craven Allen Gallery in Durham . He has had tea pots in the National Tea Pot shows at Cedar Creek Gallery. Larry uses clay as his primary sculpture media and experiments with joining other materials with the clay, allowing him ultimate freedom for his poetic constructions.
