Join us to celebrate Katie! Katie Serewicz (1950–2011) was a creative powerhouse. She worked as a professional artist in her early life, designing sport clothing and stationary. She later found her true niche and passion in art therapy. Katie was one of the founders of The Art Experience, a community art studio in Pontiac serving people with and without disabilities. Trained in art therapy, the founders stressed the value of the experience of doing art—for everyone. Katie, in her own work as an artist, allowed the emotional component to inform her art and stressed this process with those whom she taught and mentored. Katie guided youth and adults, including people with developmental disabilities or mental illness, to realize their own creative potential and to see themselves as artists.
