CMC’s Musical Discovery Camp introduces kids to the world of musical sounds and the joys of making music. Previous experience singing or playing an instrument is welcome but not required. The week’s activities will include singing, rhythm work, and a basic introduction to music theory. Kids will participate in a hands-on exploration of the many ways musical sounds are produced using unconventional musical artifacts – instruments made out of everyday objects. Campers will be part of an ensemble where they will learn about dynamics, sound quality, listening and playing at the same time, staying in rhythm, and following the conductor. Campers will also have an opportunity to try a variety of musical instruments (strings, woodwinds, piano, percussion) during the week. At the end of the week, students will share their work in an informal performance.
