Hello,
In honor of women’s history month, the Air Force Museum Theatre will feature a group of ground-breaking aviators with Beyond the Powder: The Legacy of the First Women's Cross-Country Air Race. Director Kara Martinelli accompanied a team of two women racers in the 2014 Air Race Classic to mirror the story of the original Air Race of 1929, originally named the Powder Puff Derby.
Hemlock Films' Adam White and Kara Martinelli have blended the excitement of flying in the 2014 race with the courage and innovation of the first Powder Puff Derby. Combining photographs and footage from the first race with what she filmed herself during the 2014 race this film comes alive on the screen.
Kara Martinelli along with her 2014 Racing Teammates will be joined by Dr. Terry Von Thaden, granddaughter of Louise Thaden to share their personal insight with the audience. Louise Thaden was the winner of the first Powder Puff Derby in 1929. The event will begin at 4 p.m.
