Class Description One day class from 7-8pm, July 29th. Prior registration and payment required. In this class, we will learn one of the basic rhythms that defines flamenco dance: fandangos, a twelve-count (two six-counts) beat which originated from partner dances in brightly colored costumes accompanied by Spanish folk songs. We will explore arm movements and marking patterns that emulate this rhythm! No shoes or hardwood floors required. This workshop is designed for new and repeat students. Choreography will differ from past workshops. Special Notes This class will take place on Zoom. Registered students will receive a link approximately 24 hours before the class. Instructor(s) LARISA ‘RISA’ GEARHART-SERNA has been dancing since the age of three, including ballet, jazz, country western, latin forms, and swing, but she fell in love with flamenco dance. Dancing with the National Institute of Flamenco in Albuquerque, NM, as well as with numerous artists in Oakland, San Francisco, New Haven, and Durham, she now brings her love of the dance form to this community. She is currently a PhD student at Duke University in pathology and environmental toxicology. http://www.durhamarts.org/classes.html
