Seven-year-old piano prodigy Naomi Yamaguchi has won several awards for her piano-playing skills and even earned a trip to Carnegie Hall.
Naomi, a student at Holy Family in Rochester Hills, is taught piano by Catherine Rollin.
Naomi, who loves to compose as well as play music, started playing piano at age 4. Last year, she started to compete and she, so far, has won every competition she has entered. The first win came at the Albion College Piano Festival in October 2010. She recently took home first prize at the Michigan Music Teacher's Association (MMTA) Concerto Competition, held at Oakland University.
She also has recently passed the regional auditions for the World Piano Competition.
"She likes performing," said her mother, Yuri Yamaguchi. "She's doing well at school, too. So it helps a lot in many ways. I'm very happy for her. I think older children have to learn music."
Naomi said she is excited now to have been invited to play twice at Carnegie Hall in New York City.
