There’s s’more summer fun for families Tuesday, Aug. 10, when Naper Settlement celebrates National S’Mores Day. Naper Settlement, 523 S. Webster St., Naperville, will be open late until 8 p.m. Families can bring a picnic dinner, make s’mores from 6 to 8 p.m., take twilight tours of the buildings and enjoy listening to Emmy award-winning storyteller Jim May from 7 to 8 p.m.
May is the cofounder of the Illinois Storytelling Festival, its artistic director for 20 years, and one of the leaders of the storytelling revival. At Naper Settlement, his warm, engaging style will appeal to children and adults alike. His book, “The Farm on Nippersink Creek,” won an American Library Association “Best Book” award and his children’s picture book, “The Boo Baby Girl,” is a Chicago area librarians’ favorite and is in its second printing. He recently released a DVD of participation stories for children, titled “Tell A Story, Make A Friend.” In 2000, May was inducted into the National Storytelling Network’s “Circle of Excellence” (Hall Of Fame).
Activities are included with admission, which is $9 adults, $8 seniors and $6.50 youth 4-17. Children 3 and under are free. For more information, visit www.napersettlement.museum.
