Pioneer Days is a pre 1840’s Folkways Festival for the whole family to enjoy. The Historic Daniel Boone Home and Boonesfield Village is transformed into a frontier encampment where sounds of music, artisans at work, children’s laughter, and gunfire fill the air. Pioneer Days will be held on Saturday, September 19, 2009 and Sunday, September 20, 2009 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. There will be activities for the entire family to participate in. Children will be able to join in on tomahawk throwing, sac races, graces, tug of war, and other period games. There will be mini concerts of period music, dancing, cannon shoots, pottery, blacksmithing, fife and drums, wood crafts and much more. To make the weekend especially fun for the kids, a full two days of games and activities have been created including: tug-of-war competition, sac races, three-legged races, cracker whistling competition, and a maze. Special presentations will be held throughout the day including a first person slave reenactment explaining life as a slave and a chance to hear Daniel Boone and his biographer John Filson share some of their adventurous stories. The Boonesfield Village will have each of its buildings open for guests to see including the school house, carpenter’s shop, chapel, and general store. Admission for the event is $7 for adults, $6 for seniors (age 55+), and $4 for children (ages 4-11). The Daniel Boone Home will also be open for house tours. Combined admission for event and house tour is available, as well as, family passes. Group discounts are available, but must be given two weeks advanced notice and are for groups 10 or more.
