The City of Tarpon Springs presents the Second Annual Manatee Celebration Day on January 22 from 10 am to 4 pm. A full day of educational and fun activities will take place in the Heritage Museum and surrounding Craig Park, the winter home of a large number of manatees in Spring Bayou. Admission is free to all events. Activities: Talk by artist Christopher Still about painting manatees underwater and his conservation efforts. Talk by St Pete Times Journalist and author Craig Pittman (Book: Manatee Insanity). Talk by Brandon Bassett, FWC Marine Mammalogist. Demonstration by Bonnie Abellera of FWC with Manatee skeleton, pictures, posters, educational materials for teachers, full size cloth cut-out of a manatee, fishing line recycling tube, boating safety information, FWC magazines, manatee sighting or mortality map of the area, research information, license plate display board, replica dugong skull. Save the Manatee Club Information and Volunteers. Children's Activities: Painting contest, beading, pinwheels, manatee puppets and teaching sessions. Story Time: "All About Manatees". Gro Group will participate selling Manatee Art Greeting Cards. The gro Group is a non-profit organization that provides activities and outreach to disabled students. Films: Water's Journey - The Hidden Rivers of Florida; and Manatees: Species in Peril. Manatee Gift Shop (stuffed animals, puzzles, books jewelry). AND don't forget to visit the Tarpon Springs manatees in Spring Bayou: see these huge gentle creatures in their winter habitat of Spring Bayou.
