Harvest Day offers old time fun for everyone. It includes re-enactments of activities early settlers in the Valley would have experienced: boiling down sorghum syrup into molasses, pressing apples into cider, shelling ear corn, grinding it and feeding chickens, cutting logs with a crosscut saw, taking a ride on a horse-drawn wagon, making butter, mixing batter and frying pancakes; spinning, weaving, dyeing and braiding flax and wool; cleaning clothes with a washboard, painting pumpkins, playing homemade games, enjoying stories from long ago, listening to nostalgic music, making yarn dolls and centerpieces from items found in nature, etc. Foods and drinks are available on site. Also available in the Country Store and Bake shop will be cider, jam, pumpkins, pies, cakes, apple dumplings, etc. Entrance fees: $10 per car, $15 for a large van, $4 for walk-ins and bikers. See www.vbmhc.org or e-mail info@vbmhc.org for more details. Normal Heritage Center hours are 10 am - 5 pm Wed-Sat. Monday and Tuesday by appointment.
