Comics Comics involve a unique combination of storytelling and artwork. There are many established forms, such as Marvel and anime, as well a growing underground world of independent comics. The class will focus primarily on the artistic element of comics, pushing you to develop your own style. You will work on formal drawing and inking techniques in rendering perspective, the figure, and expression, and study effective ways of laying out page. You will design an original character and build a story around that character. By the end of this class, you will produce at least three to four pages of a comic story, which will then be collected into an anthology with their classmates' work. All skill and knowledge levels are welcome. Instructor: Lauren Brooks is a current graduate student in Painting at Cranbrook Academy of Art and earned a BFA in Studio Art at the University of Texas at Austin. She taught art at high schools in Texas for four years prior to attending Cranbrook.
