The James & Meryl Hearst Center for the Arts announces the debut of its grant project entitled James Hearst: Interpreting “The Farmstead” funded, in part, by a grant award from Silos & Smokestacks National Heritage Area. The Hearst Center recently added James Hearst’s poetry to the Hearst Sculpture Garden. They have also launched cell phone tours featuring archival recordings of James Hearst reading his poetry, as well as individual Hearst Center room histories. In addition, the Hearst Center now features a multimedia kiosk featuring audio and video recordings of James Hearst, digitized copies of his poetry and prose, and images of artwork inspired by his poetry. When guests visit the Hearst Center they can now further their understanding of the historical significance of farmer-poet, James Hearst’s works, as well as his home, the present day Hearst Center for the Arts. Increase your knowledge of Iowa farm life as you listen to Mr. Hearst read and discuss his agriculturally inspired poetry, and see photos from the Hearst family album. Interested participants can stop by the Hearst Center during regular gallery hours to interact with the kiosk or log onto the website www.cedarfalls.com/hearstlegacy To view poetry plinths in the Hearst Sculpture Garden visit the garden from sunrise to sunset, seven days a week.
