We hope this guide will take some of the stress and confusion out of starting your homeschooling journey.

1.    Know the laws and requirement of your state

2.    Find local connections
Homeschool groups are an excellent way to connect to other parents and students in your area who have similar interests. Find local support groups by clicking the location here.

3.    Explore and discover your home educator style
Evaluate what learning and teaching styles will work best for your family. One of the many benefits to homeschooling is to be able to tailor a child's education to their personality. You know your child best, so you'll be able to help them learn according to their needs.

Think about these key points:

Structured vs non-structured learner
Active vs calm personality
Best time of day to engage
Visual, auditory, verbal, and/or physical learners
Check out this section about multiple intelligences

4.    Investigate curriculum and materials
Talk to homeschool parents and homeschoolers to find out what worked for them.  Sometimes you'll work best with a complete curriculum, other times it's a piece of one melded with a piece another. Your family has the freedom to learn from many sources, including outdoor adventures, co-op classes, movies, etc. There's no end to the ways to home educate. Find great materials offered on the directory by clicking on curriculum.

5.    Enjoy the adventure!
Most important is to have fun. If learning is a battle, something is wrong. There's no need to stay on your chosen educational plan if things are not going well; re-evaluate and make a change so you and your family can make it the best experience for everyone. You're not in this alone, and guaranteed you're not the first to experience particular homeschooling hurdles, so never hesitate to reach out for help.

We wish you all the best on your homeschool adventure!
