Unschooling Nebraska
Geographic Area Serving: Nebraska
Description: This list is a place for Nebraska unschoolers to get together and discuss unschooling ideas. Unschooling is about not creating a miniature school inside your home. You are free to learn and live as a family. As a family, you are free to choose how that looks in your individual home. You are *Mom*, not the *teacher*. Dad is not the *principal*, he is the dad. Unschooling is living life, not dividing *life* up into compartments such as math, science, social studies, etc. Unschooling is *not* a hands-off type of parenting or living. If you are coming to this from conventional parenting it can be a leap of faith. Faith that your child *will* learn without being forced, and at his own individual pace. Unschooling can question some traditional thoughts that usually don't get questioned in other circles. Such as learning without a curriculum, treating children with kindness, respect and dignity, modeling our interactions with them the way we'd like them to interact with others. Trusting your child's natural ability to learn can have wonderful benefits. It is a enjoyable journey and if you think this sounds appealing to you, join us.
Requirements: Request to join yahoo group
Benefits: Sharing unschooling ideas

Geographic Area Serving: Nebraska Panhandle and Eastern Wyoming; based out of Scottsbluff, Nebraska
Description: The Western Nebraska Home Educators Network is a voluntary network that exists to support homeschooling families in Western Nebraska and Eastern Wyoming with educational opportunities and support group activities that enhance their homeschool experience. Our primary goal is to support, encourage and educate homeschooling families. We do this in two different and very distinct ways. First is our Support Group which focuses on the family! Our Support Group offers such things as field trips, special outings, campouts, activities and most importantly support for homeschooling families. Second is our Cooperative which focuses on our child's educational needs. Our Cooperative offers a variety of classes for all ages including classes which are difficult to teach at home such as Band, Choir, and Speech.
Requirements: We are an inclusive homeschool network. We welcome all families regardless of their religious beliefs, political views, education or parenting philosophies. We do not require our members to sign a statement of faith in order to participate. We believe that it is the parent's right and responsibility to decide which activities and classes are appropriate for their child based on their personal family values and needs. We encourage members to focus on similarities and respect differences.
Benefits: Monthly newsletter, Support Group, Cooperative, Workshops, Seminars, Library, HSLDA Discount Membership and more
Cost: $25 prior to June 1 or $35 after June 15, yearly
