| Description: Hall County Home Educators (HCHE) is a nonprofit homeschooling organization in beautiful Northeast Georgia whose purpose is to assist smaller support groups in the area by providing opportunities for friendships and mentorships of a diverse people who live, worship, and
operate their homeschools in many different ways. We do not prescribe to any one particular method of homeschooling our children. We believe parents have been given the authority by God to decide the best way to educate their children. We do not require a "Statement of Faith" nor do we
require that only Christians be members. However, it must be stated that most of our members are of the Christian faith and any advice or support given will be Christian in nature. We strive to provide activities and field trips for all ages and interests. HCHE thrives on the volunteer efforts of its members to organize such adventures. Each activity and field trip is required to be fully self-supporting so that members who will not benefit from them will not be required to subsidize them. It is the responsibility of each family to decide which of these activities or field trips it will organize or
participate in.If you have a homeschool related announcement or product that would aid us
in our endeavor to educate our children, please send your information to hall_co_home_edu@hotmail.com OR hchehallcountyhomeeducators-owner@yahoogroups.com FREE of charge. Please note, however, in order to avoid any misconceptions concerning our
nonprofit making purpose and to allow us more time to focus on the education of our children, we do not host fundraising activities to support the HCHE budget.

| Theresa Howard |

| 770-932-6185 |
| |
| |
| 770-338-0769 |
|
| Geographic Area Serving: Atlanta Area (Chamblee-Tucker), Georgia |
| Description: St. Philomena Adjumentum (SPA) is a cooperative venture of Catholic homeschooling families who have agreed to follow the same curriculum and share teaching expertise. We meet twice each week, on average, from September through June, to introduce and review course material, hold discussions and work on group projects, and especially to foster peer community among both students and mothers.
SPA is NOT a school. “Adjumentum” is the Latin word for “co-op,” and that is the extent of our aspiration. There is no central leadership; all families have an equal voice in decision-making, whether this regards scheduling, grading, long-range planning, or expanding. We are committed to decision by consensus.
Our shared expectations derive from the principle expressed in Gravissimum Educationis 3:
As it is the parents who have given life to their children, on them lies the gravest obligation of educating their family. They must therefore be recognized as being primarily and principally responsible for their education. The role of parents in education is of such importance that it is almost impossible to provide an adequate substitute.
SPA consists of 10-15 families, including children ranging from newborns to 12th grade. We follow the Mother of Divine Grace syllabi for all grade levels, allowing for some modification if necessary, again following the co-op model when instituting such changes. All mothers remain with the group throughout the SPA day, assigning themselves to a class or activity according to their interests and the group’s needs. From its inception we met in a private home but have now moved to a larger facility at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Tucker, Georgia. The day begins with Mass at 9:15, after which we separate into classes. We eat lunch and play together from 12:20-1:10, then close with a mothers’ “debriefing” at 3:40. Open and constant communication is our trademark.
The high school courses are taught by mothers who take responsibility for the overall structure of how the subject is taught and graded. The grade school students are grouped by age, grade level and subject and are moderated by mothers throughout the day, but the parent is responsible for all assessment.
|
| Requirements: We have adopted a simple uniform policy at SPA. All students wear white shirts and closed-toe shoes. The grade school girls wear navy skorts, skirts, jumpers or pants, and the grade school boys wear navy pants. The high school girls wear khaki pants or skirts (of sufficient length to touch the floor when kneeling), and the high school boys wear khaki pants.
|
| Benefits: Our goal is to assist and support one another as we grow daily in our vocation as Christian wives, mothers and teachers faithful to the Magisterium of the Church. The freedom of each family to follow Jesus Christ, in obedience to their Bishop, according to the specific spirituality and tradition they choose, is zealously protected.
We have found SPA to be an effective and joyful vehicle toward academic excellence, genuine friendship and apostolic witness. We believe we have truly found the best of both homeschool and Catholic school worlds.
