Logic’s End
by Keith A. Robinson

Logic’s End is a cool science fiction book for christians.  It deals with evolution, and shows how illogical and foolish it is.

Rebecca Evans is a scientist, an atheist, and one of the people who’s going on a trip to an earth-like planet to see if there is life there.  Expecting only small microbes and worms, she gets separated from the rest of the crew.  She finds herself ambushed and captured by aliens, and though she is saved (by other aliens) she is forced to travel with a group of cannibals, murderers, and fighters back to her ship, which is more technologically advanced than the aliens (this is the future, after all).

The story is okay in my opinion, but the action is great, everything is explained well, and everything twists back and forth.  It’s kind of gory, though, so those of the faint hearted should take caution.

The aliens themselves are designed amazingly.  They easily go past the “I’m a human with a bump on my head.”  Take Prin of the Diodre Clan, for instance.  He’s only slightly humanoid, but at his elbows his arms fork into two separate hands, and altogether he’s ferret-like.  They range from the really cool (like Druen, who looks like a giant triceratops) to the grotesque (like the modir, who have no head).

The aliens are more colorful in personality in that they are completely inhuman.  They eat their dead, kill without remorse, the crippled are eliminated, and are surprisingly selfish, as they do not care for each other, in fact in some cases hate each other, and are genderless.  One of the characters, Ch’ran, is completely insane.

Rebecca herself is no match for these aliens.  The only reason they keep her alive is because she is the only one who can open the ship that brought her to the planet.  She starts questioning her beliefs about her atheism as she starts talking with Prin, who is a scientist and cannot believe the “insane” things that he is told about earth (the fact that only humanity is smart, for instance).

I personally liked this book.  The characters, illustrations, and the way Robinson explains the situation or location, paints an image in your mind.  If you want a good science fiction but can’t find one because of the fact that every single one you see has evolution in it, this is a great pick.

The book is rated 8/10

A note: Logic’s End is actually the first of a trilogy, the other two being “Pyramid of the Ancients” and “Escaping the Cataclysm.”  They all deal with evolution.
