734-481-9111
Geographic Area Serving: Ypsilanti/ Washtenaw County, Michigan and beyond (We currently also have families from Lenawee, Wayne, Oakland, Jackson, and Monroe Counties in MI and the Toledo, OH area as well!)
Description: Adventurers meets weekly during the "schoolyear" for classes, social and service opportunities. We are a multi-denominational Christian cooperative primarily serving families with high school students. We welcome a more creative approach to education and encourage the initiative of our students. Currently we meet Thursday afternoons and evenings (the latter to accommodate more dads) just south of Ypsilanti, MI. Our size of 140 max students allows for intimacy and relationship formation without sacrificing versatility of our class offerings.
Requirements: Families are asked to help out in the co-op by fulfilling two service roles. We try to tailor these roles to the gifts each family brings to share. We also have a drop in program for high school only.
Benefits: Our classes range the gamut, from Stage Combat to AP Chemistry taught by a local college professor. We tailor the classes we offer each semester to the particular families we are serving. What kinds of experiences is your family seeking? Because we are smaller than some groups, participants get to know one another, family to family and set the agenda.
Cost: $30/student, $75 family cap

CHEPA - Christian Home Educators Parents Association
Cheri Pelic
248-349-5447
Geographic Area Serving:
Description: CHEPA is a homeschool support group for people who are currently homeschooling or people who are thinking about homeschooling. You are more than welcome to attend our monthly meetings. They are held at 7 pm on the first Monday of each month (September through May) at St. Michael's Lutheran Church in Canton. (If the first Monday of the month is a holiday, the meeting is held on the 2nd Monday of the month.) We typically feature speakers on topics that would be of interest to homeschoolers. We also make announcements of things going on in the area for homeschoolers and there is a bit of time to just chat with other homeschooling moms (and sometimes dads.) The meetings are primarily for parents so children do not usually attend. There is a $1 meeting fee to cover the cost of the room we use.
Requirements: There are no membership forms to fill out or any dues to be a part of CHEPA. If you do some type of volunteer work for the group (i.e. set up a field trip, bring refreshments to meetings, hold a job such as treasurer, etc.), you will be considered an 'active member'. This helps us to keep the group going and also allows you to receive priority on field trips and special activities.
Benefits: In addition to our monthly meetings, we have a monthly newsletter. It is published to coincide with the monthly meetings. The newsletter will tell you about scheduled field trips, events of interest to homeschoolers, etc. The cost for a yearly subscription to the newsletter is $6 for an email copy. We also have an email announcements-only group. If we hear of things too late to put in the newsletter or when folks have things to share of interest to other homeschoolers (i.e. classes they hear about, special sales for homeschoolers, etc.), they send them to us and we forward them to the group. There is no charge to join.
