Summer Jobs For Teens
by Amanda van der Gulik

It's that time of year again, our teens are almost finished their exams and looking for some fun summer jobs for teens to help them earn some cash to have some fun this summer...and maybe save some for later (if they've been lucky enough to have someone teach them about money!)

That means this is a perfect opportunity for us
, their parents, to not only get them out of our house...hey, it gets noisy in here with all those teen hormones!...but also to have our teens learn how to make their own money...and stay out of our pockets!
They'll get to enjoy that wonderful feeling of pride of ownership of paying for the things they like, like movie tickets and the newest videos games...and ice cream! As well, as that incredible motivator...instant gratification that will leave them with a taste for more, wanting to make even more money to be able to buy even more fun stuff!

AND...it's a wonderful opportunity for them to learn how to master their money by putting a part of their earnings aside to save up for longer-term goals, like paying for college, otherwise known as delayed gratification.

Hey, how awesome would you have felt to be able to brag about how you paid your own way through school!

So yeah, great! Lots of opportunities before our teens but the REAL QUESTION is:

How do our kids find summer jobs for teens?

I've posted this video on my blog, it's one of the best videos I've found so far with fun and easy summer jobs for teens. Your teens are going to love it!

You can check it out here:

Here are just a few of the fun ideas that she shares with us in her video:

•    Washing friends and neighbours cars
•    Babysitting
•    Dog wash
•    Mother's Assistant
•    House sitting/taking care of plants
•    Cleaning pools

In the video Shannon not only gives some great general ideas but also some really cool, really easy tips on how to help your teen promote their business and find customers. I was really impressed. Go take a quick look, your teen will love it!

And if that's not enough to get your teen's entrepreneurial spirit lit then get them to come up with their own ideas. You'll probably be surprised by your own teen's creativity.

Sometimes all they need are a few ideas to get the ball rolling.

One of the best reasons it's so awesome for your teen to create their own summer job, rather than work for a store or fast food place somewhere, is that they get to set their own schedule!

That means they get to still go to all the fun summer activities that they and their friends have lined up all year to do!

...and that means you will have a happy teen on your hands....trust me that is like GOLD! :D

Here are a few other ideas that I wrote about in my "50 Money Making Ideas for Kids and Teens" ebook (you can get your free copy below)

•    Cooking/Baking - your teen can make meals or goodies to order for your friends and family, hey they have the time while your friends and family are away all day working, they would probably LOVE to come home to a fresh home cooked meal all ready for them!

•    Sports lessons - is your teen great at sports? They can set up some fun sports lessons for kids in the neighbourhood and have mini-competitions. Your teen could get local stores to donate gifts to give to the winners.

•    Is your teen musical? They can set up their own music concert in the backyard, ask friends to perform and ask a small admission fee and offer goodies like a BBQ and cool pop.

•    Lemonade Stand - yes, it's an old one, but a good one, especially on a hot day! They can find someone having a yard sale and ask to rent out a small corner to sell lemonade, and the person from the yard sale benefits from the extra traffic that the refreshing drink will give passer-bys.
•    Lawn mowing and gardening - tons of people want to have their lawns and gardens looking and growing great but just don't have the time to do it themselves...and once the summer is over they may keep your teen on to do fall leaves cleanup and then snow shovelling too!
